Hopeton Green is a PTR Certified Professional whose professional career began in the Colony Resort in Jamaica in 1985. Since then, he has held several key positions including the tennis coach at Notre Dame Academy in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and the assistant Tennis Pro at Overbrook Golf Club in Radnor, Pennsylvania. Born on the courts of Miami, Jim Holt gradually became a "student of the game", being transplanted later to the Philly suburbs, and achieving all-conference status as a tri-sport athlete at local powerhouse Wissahickon High School (Ambler). Holt made the West Chester University tennis team his freshman year, and did so, in huge part because of his athletic background (a blend of tennis, soccer, hockey, football, baseball & wrestling). After successful high school coaching stints at Abington, Malvern Prep and Souderton High, Holt came to Gwynedd Mercy University with the intentions of turning the Griffin Tennis Programs around after inheriting a team that had gone 4-48 in the previous five years. It’s safe to say after an IMMEDIATE turnaround, that winning conference championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 with the women (& 2 w/men's team), that Coach Holt has established himself as one of the top coaches in NCAA Division III.
His team has since gone a staggering 148-14 in conference play for a stunning 91% success rate (228-53, 81% overall). He also has the most wins in conference history. Holt's Gwynedd teams have qualified for a combined 11 years for the highly prestigious National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament, where the best teams in the country compete (in their respective Division). With Holt pushing for academic success, he has coached over 110 "All-Academic team" players from his rosters.
Holt's players have accumulated over 100 combined "all conference" selections, (by far the most in conference history) including 3 player of the year Awards, & 4 rookie of the year awards (also conference records). Coach Holt has also won a total of 11 coach of the year honors in his 17 years (3 of which were major USTA Coach of the Year awards), with one being the USTA Middle States College Coach of the Year in 2009. Another highly prestigious USTA award was also given to Holt, who was the top voted coach in the Middle States area (which consists of 4 states). Holt has also attained the highest teaching ranking of "professional" issued by the Professional Tennis Registry and was a teaching professional at Philadelphia Sports Clubs.
Jim has a master’s degree in Special Education and worked as a supervisor/teacher at Wordsworth Academy in Fort Washington, Pa.
Coach Holt is also an active member of the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) is also the Founder/Director of “Touch of Tennis", a volunteer special needs annual tennis clinic, a nationally awarded program by USTA and was an active member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters for 10 years. Coach Holt also has coached the "Simply Smashing" women's USTA team for the past 3 summers and has enjoyed seeing them achieve up to the district level each year.
