Junior Programs

Frog Hollow offers junior clinics for players age 4 – 18 of all levels looking for a fun and valuable way to learn the game of tennis.  Our fall and winter clinics run in 6-week session cycles (and our spring/summer sessions are 5-weeks).  Players can sign up for the entire session or call us to arrange to “drop-in” on a clinic when it’s convenient for you. Beginner players are placed in a clinic based on their age, while players with tennis experience are placed by one of our senior pros based upon their ability level.  If you are new to the club, and have tennis experience, please, speak to one of our senior pros or sign up for a FREE evaluation and be placed in the appropriate clinic for your level.

    Junior Clinic Descriptions

Kids Club (ages 10 and under)
Kids Club clinics are formatted for players to be more successful playing the game of tennis. We utilize low compression balls, which bounce lower and don’t move as fast. This allows kids the time to get to the ball and helps them develop optimal swing patterns. Racquets and courts are also sized appropriately, making the game less frustrating and more fun! Kids Club clinics give kids the opportunity to play to learn, while they learn to play!

Red Court 1 (Ages 4 - 8) Red Court 1 is the introductory level of our program. The purpose of this level is to lay a solid foundation to build upon in future levels. No previous experience is necessary to participate. Students in this class will have fun while developing the skills necessary to play the game. Coaches will use a variety of methods to teach skills such as:

  • Hitting & working with a partner
  • Tracking, sending and receiving skills
  • Stroke fundamentals
  • Movement, agility and balance skills
  • Use of proper grips
  • Listening and focus skills

Red Court 2 (Ages 4 - 8)
In order to participate in Red Court 2 a child must have tested out of Red Court 1. Specifically, students at this level have demonstrated the ability to rally 15-20 balls back and forth with a coach using both forehands and backhands. This level is designed to develop the skills necessary to transition to the orange court programs. In addition to the skills from Red Club 1, classes at this level will focus on:

  • Development of stroke technique
  • Footwork and coordination skills
  • Tactical play on the red court
  • Volley and overhead skills (net play)

Orange Court 1 (Ages 9 - 10)
This is the primary level for this age group. Students in this group will range from beginner to intermediate. Intermediate level students have demonstrated the ability to rally 15 - 20 times with a peer. They are able to serve overhead on the red court and can perform basic movement skills fluidly (e.g. hopping, skipping, jumping and running). Players will develop extended stroke patterns to help with the larger court. They will begin to play cooperatively from the orange court baseline learning shot selection and control. Advanced movement and tracking skills will also be developed.

Orange Court 2 (Ages 9 - 10)
Orange court 2 is designed for players that are interested and actively participating in tournament competition (e.g. Frog Hollow in-house tournaments, Team Tennis, USTA sanctioned tournaments or USTA Junior Team Tennis). Players at this level have successfully tested out of Orange Court 1. Specifically, they are able to rally 15 - 20 balls in a row from the baseline with directional intent (crosscourt & down the line). They can consistently serve into the correct service box using an overhead motion. Movement and recovery skills are also evident. Emphasis for this class is on high performance techniques and tactics, use of spin and development of an all-court style of play.

Tactics Training (ages 11 to 15)

Clinics in Tactics Training are for players to progress from beginner to intermediate play and beyond. At this stage, kids will be taught how to "play" the game. Pros will teach basic tactics and strategies need to progress and understand play situations.

Tactics Court 1
This clinic is used as a transition from Kids Club groups. We combine the recent graduates of the Kids Club program and older junior players who are new to the game. Skills in this clinic are being developed for play on the full 78’ court.

Tactics Court 2
Players have successfully completed Tactics Court 1 and/or the Kids Club program and have shown an advanced level of rallying skills. Skills from the previous clinic will be reviewed. This player has been competing in Frog Hollow Junior Team Tennis and/or other match play such USTA sanctioned tournaments or USTA Junior Team Tennis.

Team Training (ages 11 - 18)

Team Training Clinics are designed for the Middle School or High School player who is looking to progress on their school team ladder. Players in this group will learn doubles and singles strategy and tactics for competition.

High Performance Training

The High Performance training program at Frog Hollow is for the advanced level player that is actively competing in USTA tournament competition and/or high school varsity level competition. Players will receive comprehensive technical, tactical, physical and mental training that stems from our programs simple objective, to take good tennis players and turn them into great tennis players. All participants are expected to come prepared to train and work towards meeting this goal at each practice.

 Participation in the High Performance program requires approval from Head Pro and High Performance Coordinator. Acceptance will be based on tournament experience, level of play, work ethic, attitude and commitment.

Match Play & Kids Club Play Days

All junior players are encouraged to participate in our weekly match play, which provides players with singles and doubles match experience. Kids Club Play Days will combine the Kids Club clinics with the opportunity for match practice. These matches give players the opportunity to put into play what they learn in clinics and lessons. Frog Hollow offers match play for all levels of players!

New Session Sign Ups:  To sign up for a junior clinic you can just stop by the club and make a payment to register, or if you’re a returning player, you can even call and sign up over the phone!  We allow players who are enrolled in our current session to sign up for the same clinic 3 weeks prior to the next session.  New players, or players who wish to change days, may sign up 2 weeks in advance.  Remember that full session sign ups are the only spots that are reserved. Drop-ins pay on the day they come and do not have a reserved spot in the clinic.  Please make sure to read our full program policies (available on our session schedules online, or at the front desk) before committing to any junior programs.  Don’t forget to ask about our multiple clinic discount!

Make-ups:  We realize that signing up for a full session is a commitment and we give you a discount over the daily rate for just that reason.  We allow 1 clinic make-up per session.  A make-up must be completed in the same session that the clinic was missed and you must inform us when you will be absent.  To make up the missed clinic, please call and schedule when you want to make up in advance.  Our goal is to maintain a low pro to student ratio in each class, and monitoring our make-ups closely allows us to do that. Because match play is only offered once a week, there are no make-ups offered for match play.

Junior Program Policies:

  1. All students must be placed by a senior pro
  2. Clinics MUST be prepaid to reserve a player’s spot
  3. If you do not pre-pay, player will be charged a daily rate for the class (players who pay daily rate are not guaranteed a spot in the class)
  4. There is a minimum of 4 players in each clinic, if that minimum is not met, players will be moved to other classes.
  5. There is only 1 clinic make-up allowed per session - and it must be made up DURING the session the class was missed.  Classes may be made up only if you call to notify the club before the missed class.  There are no make-ups allowed for match play.
  6. When a player is registered and paid in full for the current session, he/she can re-sign up for the same day, same clinic, 3 weeks in advance of the next session.  If a player is not in the current session, or wishes to change days, he/she may sign up 2 weeks in advance of the next session.
  7. The likeness of players may be used for Frog Hollow's web sites, publications, advertisements and other collateral materials.
  8. Junior clinics and camps are non-refundable and non-transferable
