Junior Clinics

Frog Hollow offers junior clinics for players of all levels, age 4 – 18, looking for a fun and valuable way to learn the game of tennis.  Our fall and winter clinics run in 6-week session cycles (spring/summer sessions are 5-weeks). Players can sign up for the entire session or call us to arrange to “drop-in” on a clinic when it’s convenient for you.  Beginner players are placed in a clinic based on their age, while players with tennis experience are placed by our Director of Tennis or Head Pro based upon their ability level.  If you are new to the club and have tennis experience, please sign up for a FREE evaluation and be placed in the appropriate clinic for your level.  Ask us about our multi-clinic discounts!

Junior Program Descriptions

Fun Club (Ages 4 & 5)
This is the perfect start to prepare your child for Kids Club Tennis. Children learn through play, having fun and developing active habits. A basic understanding of space on the 36’ court is established. Children are taught to control objects in a given space. They work on sending/receiving, finding/handling in addition to cooperative, awareness, application skills, coordination and balance, starting and stopping and body rotation skills. Traveling movement skills will be set which including running, shuffling and jumping.

Kids Club (ages 10 and under)

Kids Club clinics are formatted for players to be more successful playing the game of tennis. We utilize low compression balls, which bounce lower and don’t move as fast. This allows kids the time to get to the ball and helps them develop optimal swing patterns. Racquets and courts are also sized appropriately, making the game less frustrating and more fun!

Red 1 (Ages 6 - 8)
This clinic is the first stage of Frog Hollow’s Kids Club. It starts players from the beginning of racquet and ball activities. All work is done on the 36’ court with foam balls. Here, kids will refine their tracking and receiving skills. Basic movement and balance skills are worked on along with basic court knowledge. Skills developed will include the basics in: footwork, development of a ground stroke swing path, volley stroke, rally and game play and the fundamentals in coordination and movement.

Red 2 (Ages 6 - 8)
This clinic is played on a 36’ court with red felt balls. Children in this clinic have tested out of Red 1 clinics. Skills developed in this clinic include: a basic swing path for ground strokes, impact point for forehands and a two-handed backhand, basic footwork patterns, square stance and semi open stance,  basic serve, basic volley, ability to hit balls in directions (cross court and down the line) and ability to establish a 10-ball rally with a partner.

Orange 1 (Ages 9 - 10)
This clinic is played on a 60’ court using orange balls. This is stage two in the Kids Club development program for juniors. This clinic is for children who are new to the game or have tested out of the Red 2 clinic. The following skills are developed: execution of full extension on ground strokes, semi-western, continental and eastern grips, ability to hit in all 3 stances (square, semi-open and open), flat and slice serves,  serve return, footwork patterns, core strength and upper body control.

Orange 2 (Ages 9 - 10)
This clinic is played on a 60’ court with orange balls. Children in this clinic have tested out of Orange 1. The following skills are developed: slice backhands and forehands, approach shots, inside in and inside out forehands, hitting in all 3 stances (square, semi-open and open), flat, slice and kick serves, high percentage of rally balls, cross court and down the line point play, and basic understanding of the tactics to win matches is introduced.  Weekly (minimum) match play is required.

Tactics Training (ages 11 to 15)

Clinics in Tactics Training are for players to progress from beginner to intermediate play and beyond. At this stage, kids will be taught how to "play” the game.  Pros will teach basic tactics and strategies needed to progress and understand play situations.

Tactics 1
This clinic is used as a transition from Kids Club groups.  We combine the recent graduates of the Kids Club program and older junior players who are new to the game.  Skills in this clinic are being developed for play on the full 78’ court.

Tactics 2
Players have successfully completed Tactics Court 1 and/or Kids Club program and have shown an advanced level of rallying skills. Skills from the previous clinic will be reviewed.  This player has been competing in Frog Hollow Team Tennis and/or other match play such as USTA sanctioned tournaments or USTA Junior Team Tennis.

Team Training (ages 11 - 18)

Team Training Clinics are designed for the Middle School or High School player who is looking to progress on their school team ladder.  Players in this group will learn doubles and singles strategy and tactics for competition.

New Session Sign Ups:

To sign up for a junior clinic you can just stop by the club to register, or if you’re a returning player, you can even call and sign up over the phone!  We allow players who are enrolled in our current session to sign up for the same clinic 3 weeks prior to the next session.  New players, or players who wish to change days, may sign up 2 weeks in advance.  Remember that full session sign ups are the only spots that are reserved. Drop-ins pay on the day they come and do not have a reserved spot in the clinic. Please make sure to read our full program policies (available on our session schedules online, or at the front desk) before committing to any junior programs.  Don’t forget to ask about our multiple clinic discount!

Make-ups:

We realize that signing up for a full session is a commitment and we give you a discount over the daily rate for just that reason.  We allow one clinic make-up per session. Please let us know ahead of time when you will be absent. A make-up must be completed in the same session that the clinic was missed.  To schedule your make up please call in advance and the desk staff will work with you to reschedule your missed clinic.    Our goal is to maintain a low pro to student ratio in each class, and monitoring our make-ups closely allows us to do that. Because match play is only offered once a week, there are no make-ups offered for match play.

*Participation in the Tournament Training or International Tennis Academy programs require approval from the Head Pro or Director of Tennis. Acceptance will be based on tournament experience, level of play, work ethic, attitude and commitment.
